VN 24/59 Junior Project Controller (ECEP)

EUMETSAT is the European meteorological satellite agency, operating a fleet of satellites delivering weather and climate-related satellite data and images to our users; helping protect lives, property and industries.

Within our Project Planning and Control Competence Area (PPC CA), we are hiring the Junior Project Controller who will be responsible for cross-organisational reporting activities and automated tools to support analysis and decision-making of our technical teams and management line.  PPC CA supports the rest of the organisation as integrated functional support in the context of a matrix organisation. The post holder will work in support of senior project controllers within the same competence area.

In this role, the successful candidate holds key responsibilities in the definition and development of appropriate tools and reports, incl. KPI analysis and trends, for project controllers to ensure an effective and accurate reporting. She/he will have multiple interfaces within EUMETSAT including supporting the project management processes and administrative functions relevant to project planning and control.

Duties

The main duties are as follows:

  • Design, develop and maintain integrated and comprehensive reports for peer Project Controllers at corporate, departmental and programme level. These reports will typically use data to support management in decision making, e. g. reports on budget implementation status, comparison of budget planning versus previous cycles.
  • Design, develop and maintain appropriate automated tools (such as e.g. Power BI based) to enhance project tracking and reporting at corporate, departmental and programme level.
  • Work closely with peer project controllers, technical teams and other stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure tools and reports meet their needs.
  • Provide training and support on the use of tools and interpretation of reports. Ensure all users (i.e. peer Project Controllers and supported managers) are proficient in tool functionalities.
  • Support the Project Planning and Control Competence Area Manager and contribute to the overall harmonisation and improvement of project planning and control processes, standards and methodologies, working practices and tools.
  • Support the delivery of project planning and control services, in coordination with peer project controllers.

QUALIFICATIONS

University degree in Engineering, Business Administration/Economics or equivalent in a relevant discipline.


LANGUAGES

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French.

Duties

The main duties are as follows:

Skills and Experience

  • Ability to process high volumes of data and synthesize complex information using Excel and other tools with a high degree of accuracy in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, complemented by a structured, proactive and goal-oriented way of working.
  • Sufficient technical experience to quickly become proficient in ERP systems (e.g. SAP) and Power BI and similar reporting tools.
  • First experience in design and development of databases and Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) process would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of process modeling will be an advantage.
  • Good team-working and communication skills with the ability to apply them both within and across teams.

Employment Conditions

The assessment day is planned for March 2025, with the anticipated start date of 1 October 2025.

The initial contract will be under the EUMETSAT Early Career Employee Programme (ECEP), for two (2) years with grade A1. Subject to successful performance, a further contract of 5 years’ duration will be awarded in a post graded A2-A4. Additional contracts may be awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63, and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT. The basic salary for this post is EURO 5594 per month (net of internal tax but excluding pension contribution and insurances). The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
